About Strathnairn School
Strathnairn School is an ACT public primary school in Strathnairn co-located with the Strathnairn Early Learning Centre run by The Y.
In 2026 it opened to students in preschool to year 2.
For 2027 we’re inviting enrolments for all year groups from preschool to year 6, subject to viable enrolment numbers. We will be able to update you later this year.
Strathnairn School has capacity for 780 students and a further 130 children at its Early Learning Centre.
The Y runs the Strathnairn Out of School Hours Care service.
Our Priority Enrolment Area is the suburbs of Strathnairn, Macnamara, and a portion of Holt (Chester Close, Fullston Way, Lionel Rose Street and Lorraway Street only). You can enrol to attend our school anytime throughout the year.
Our vision:

Our mission:
To create an innovative environment where every individual is seen, supported and successful through responsive practices, high expectations, and deep respect for diversity.
Our values:
- Connected – We include, listen, and learn with others. We build strong relationships and work together so our whole community can succeed.
- Curious – We are inquisitive lifelong learners. We embrace wonder, explore ideas, and discover new perspectives.
- Courageous – We try hard things, speak up, and stay true to ourselves.
- Compassionate – We show genuine care for ourselves and others. We understand how our choices impact the world.
What’s open in 2026
Facilities to cater for the learning needs of students in preschool to year 2 include spaces for preschool students, junior school learning, an outdoor play area and administration.
Additional indoor and outdoor learning spaces, the library, canteen and school hall are expected to be ready for the start of term 4.
The Out of School Hours Care service is open, and Strathnairn Early Learning Centre opens from the start of term 2.
What’s to come
Timeframes for the opening of the sports field, outdoor courts and community garden will be advised once known.
The school’s design
The new school considers the nearby nature reserves and the environmentally sustainable design of the Ginninderry development on culturally significant Ngunnawal land.
The school has been designed to be accessible, sustainable, safe and to meet the enrolment needs of the area. The school’s design supports students to connect and learn collaboratively, while also enabling individual personalised learning when required.
Sustainable materials, air permeability membranes and a solar power generation system are features of the school.
