The Early Years Learning Framework
The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) is a national framework for early childhood educators to support children’s learning and development from birth to 5 years of age. The EYLF describes childhood as a time of belonging, being and becoming.
The EYLF allows teachers and educators to extend and enrich young children’s learning through 5 learning outcomes:
- Children have a strong sense of identity
- Children are connected with and contribute to their world
- Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
- Children are confident and involved learners
- Children are effective communicators.
Strathnairn Preschool staff design learning programs that respond to each child’s ideas, curiosities, strengths, and abilities. Guided by the EYLF, we observe and analyse children’s learning to inform curriculum decisions. This approach allows us to plan, implement, and evaluate high-quality educational programs that nurture every child’s growth and development.
We believe that play-based experiences provided in a caring environment ensure children feel safe. We focus on building strong, secure relationships as they are essential for a child’s learning and growth. The EYLF describes play as a context for learning that:
- allows for the expression of personality and uniqueness
- enhances dispositions such as curiosity and creativity
- enables children to make connections between prior experiences and new learning
- assists children to develop relationships and concepts
- stimulates a sense of wellbeing.
We view curriculum as the entirety of experiences that occur during our time with children. It represents the beginning of a lifelong learning community that embraces children, educators, and families working together in partnership.
